In Italy lily of the valley grows wild in the Alpine and Apennine woods. Mercury loved it. It has an exhilarating perfume with the power to sharpen memory and fortify the brain. According to Catholic legend the first lilies of the valley sprouted from tears the Madonna shed at the foot of the cross. With its virginal white color, this flower symbolizes purity and innocence.
