Vaara began as the passion of His Highness Gaj Singh II, who wanted to express his family's deep love and connection with Jodhpur. Quince is an unusual, subtle sweetness, and its sheer, evasive quality is matched by an equally fine mist of rosewater. If these two first elements comprise the proverbial dew before the dawn, carrot and coriander seed signify the sun is rapidly rising, and with it the intensity of these fragrant surroundings increases. As coriander and carrot seed diffuse their balmy, crunchy, creamy and slightly musky scent, saffron interrupts this vegetal richness with the scorpion sting of its electric tail.Like sunlight piercing through the clouds, saffron cuts through the mustard and gets the heart of this fragrant matter: rose. Moroccan rose absolute is spicy and almost creamy, while Bulgarian rose is silken and clean, but suddenly berry-ripe and almost edible. Freesia's unique soprano is a pure, clarifying bell whose sound reverberates through and round the overlapping spirals of rose, kickstarting the hypnotic, floral harmony that defines Vaara. Indian magnolia chimes in, it's indolic richness offset by the youthful verdancy of peony and the downy sophistication of that breathy chanteuse, iris. As magnolia, peony and iris underscore the vibrant vermillion of both roses, honey and white musk seep forth, transposing this majestic garden portrait into a palace interior. Set amidst curling spirals of smoky cedarwood and streaming pillars of luminous sandalwood, these roses are resituated, floating just above a shimmering carpet of golden, gourmand benzoin and tonka bean. Vaara is intricately arranged yet incredibly vibrant, projecting an image of fecundity, grandeur and intelligence. A unique, gorgeous portrait of the aromatic world of the Maharaja, Vaara evokes perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour's journey to Jodhpur, which provided abundant inspiration for the creation of this fragrance. Vaara ingeniously captivates our hearts and captures the spirit of this fascinating part of India.
